INGRID KAPPELLE – Lyric dramatic soprano

The Dutch soprano Ingrid Kappelle started her professional vocal training in 1982, with professor Mya Besselink at the Maastricht Conservatory of Music.
She received, next to her completed piano studies, her Masters Degree in Opera, Concert en Chamber music, all with distinction.
She was a prize-winner in several international competitions.
Following studies were at the Britten Pears School with Galina Vishnevskaya and Suzanne Danco. She also participated in a master class by Birgit Nillson.
Recently her vocal coach has been the famous mezzo-soprano Jard van Nes.
Ingrid Kappelle sings a broad repertoire for which she is invited internationally. She sang main parts in “La Forza del Destino”, “La Traviata”, “Othello”, “Aida”, “Faust”, “Die Fledermaus” and “Idomeneo”.
She also sang demanding oratorio repertoire such as Requiem (Verdi), Symphonies by Beethoven, Mahler; Christus am Ölberge (Beethoven), Elias and Paulus (Mendelssohn), Stabat Mater and Requiem (Dvorak).
Frequently Ingrid Kappelle is invited, by internationally renowned ensembles, for her unique interpretations of 20th century vocal music.
With Syrinx Saxophone Quartet she recorded songs by Elena Firsova. The opera “La vera Costanza” (Rosina) by Joseph Haydn and a live registration of the unknown oratorio “Agnus Dei” by Joseph Ryelandt were also recorded. Together with pianist Miklos Schwalb, Ingrid Kappelle performed studies on the unknown Dutch female composer Bertha Frensel~Wegener Koopman which resulted in a beautiful cd (Tatlin label). Tours en guest performances took Ingrid Kappelle to Italy, France, Czechoslovakia, Norway, Germany and Poland.
With Messiaen specialist Håkon Austbö she performed, at the Messiaen Chamber music festival in Oslo, Olivier Messiaen’s complete vocal works. They were also guests at the 35th festival at Como (Italy) where they performed two cycles by Karol Szymanowski in a context of Russian poetry and piano works by Scriabin. In May 2002 they were invited at the prestigious festival at Bergen ( Norway). This excellent duo recorded recently all songs by Messiaen, an achievement which is absolutely rare, since it was never done as a whole by one soprano (See Discography)!
In the season ‘95/ ‘96 she was the main vocal guest at the Consequenze Festival Rotterdam and performed Sequenza IV by Luciano Berio. In the same festival the young Dutch composer Jan van de Putte, wrote a vocal solo for Ingrid Kappelle “I am her mouth “,a dramatic work, unique in its form, completely made to fit her personal and vocal capacities. Critics and public were enchanted and completely lost in time and place in this 90 minutes scenic en vocal entity. Last season she performed several world premieres in lied and oratorio.
With the VU-orchestra directed by Daan Admiraal Ingrid Kappelle sang “Vier Letzte Lieder” by Richard Strauss, and the “Songs and dances of Death” by Modest Mussorgsky.
In her works as music director she will conduct Barbara Vespers by Claudio Monteverdi (January 2007) and Johannes Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach (march 2006).
She is the artistic director of the Treffen Foundation, who organizes a summer festival and a renown concert series in her hometown Schoonhoven (the Dutch Silver town).
